Why are you so silent?

A painting made with the encaustic wax method. Opacity. Surface. Sense of object. A thing built rather than painted. No ‘Zorro’ swishes possible here.

Those old German houses seem so sinister, uncanny, unheimlich, un-homely.
I made this over a long period but really made my mind up what it was after a recent trip to south Germany. I got to thinking of the repression in those houses, the silences, and bitternesses in the walls. Things unsaid. The silent screams of generations, oppressed by religion and custom.
