It was a line that caught my ear one night watching 'Rosemary’s Baby'. The moment in the film where Rosemary having been drugged by her malevolent husband is being put to bed and undressed by him. It seemed to suit this nocturnal painting that had been made just beforehand. In bed a redheaded woman. A Klimt-ish sleeper, her state of sleeping/dreaming being echoed by the patterning, the undulating lines on the duvet, like the spiking graph of an electrocardiogram. The framed portrait on the wall acts also as a thought, perhaps an image she is dreaming of.
