Jonathan Owen
Holmwood House
61-63 Netherlee Road
G44 3YU
16 April – 1 November
Thursday – Sunday, 10am – 5pm
Jonathan Owen's transfigured sculptures will be installed in Holmwood House, a mid-nineteenth century building that reflects his interest in reformulating symbols of status and legacy.
Carving into neoclassical sculptures, Owen has distorted and partly erased their original form, collapsing their structural integrity and the meanings they contain. Much like the artefacts, Holmwood House was designed in a classical style that emulated beauty, power and order. Placed in these ornate rooms, Owen's sculptures unsettle the power of dynamics of the space, troubling old narratives and suggesting new ways of perceiving history.
