Katie Paterson's As The World Turns (2010) is currently on display at M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art's group show, From Amber to the Stars.
The exhibition celebrates the 150th anniversary of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis (1875–1911), Lithuania's most celebrated artist and composer. The show presents an exploration of Čiurlionis’ work alongside contemporary artists who engage with two central motifs in his work: the sea and the cosmos.
Paterson's As The World Turns is a turntable that rotates in synchronisation with the Earth, revolving once every 24 hours. Playing Vivaldi's Four Seasons, if performed from beginning to end, the record would play for four years, and be barely audible. The movement is so slow it is not visible to the naked eye, yet the record is turning, imperceptibly.
