KATIE PATERSON - ST. CECILIA'S HALL

St. Cecilia's Hall

The University of Edinburgh

50 Niddry St

Edinburgh, EH1 1LG

08 September - 27 October, 2018

Celebrating the University's Main Library exhibition Astronomy Victorious and Ingleby Gallery's Jacbob's Ladder, St Cecilia’s Hall plays host to Katie Paterson’s Earth-Moon-Earth (Moonlight Sonata Reflected from the Surface of the Moon). In this seminal work, Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata was translated into Morse code and sent to the Moon. Performed on an automated grand piano, the returned transmission has been re-translated into a new score – the gaps and absences becoming intervals and rests in the music.

Free Admission. Open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am - 5pm.
