and per se and: part V - Laurence Sterne & Ben Cauchi

3 - 14 May 2017

and per se and is a rolling sequence of exhibitions where one work is paired with another for two weekly periods, across a stretch of 12 months. From today the black page of Laurence Sterne’s THE LIFE AND OPINIONS OF TRISTRAM SHANDY  will be joined by other monochromatic black pages; each one a unique, untitled ambrotype by Ben Cauchi. Cauchi uses outmoded, almost obsolete techniques, to make photographic images with a strange presence and beauty. In engaging with photography’s earliest concerns and materials, invented at a time of pioneering discovery, and experimenting with technical innovations and startlingly contemporary imagery, he revitalises traditional ways of seeing and making for the present day.
