Shadow Catchers
Shadow Catchers by Martin Barnes (Senior Curator of Photographs, V&A Museum, London) examines the work of five camera-less photographers; Susan Derges, Garry Fabian Miller, Pierre Cordier, Adam Fuss and Floris Neusüss.
By using experimental techniques that recall the basic principles of photography – the action of light onto light-sensitive paper – these artists create powerful and engaging images that challenge the belief that a camera is necessary to create a photograph.
The publication was produced to celebrate the Shadow Catchers exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London (October 2010 – February 2011), and includes essays about each artist and a short introduction to the history of camera-less photography.
