The Bee Libraries
The 18th Biennale of Sydney
27 June – 16 September 2012

The Bee Libraries are collections of bee-related books, converted into nests for bees. The first library was installed at Yorkshire Sculpture Park, May 2012; the second will be realised at the Biennale of Sydney, July 2012. Constructed from a book, bamboo, wire-netting and water-proofing, each nest offers shelter for solitary bees whose numbers are in steep decline. New nests will be added, building a global bee library. The Bee Poems are a collection of texts composed from a close reading of the books, published online.

The Bee Libraries are part of Alec Finlay’s new project, The Bee Bole
