Thomas Joshua Cooper: rock, water, tree

18 March - 8 May 2004

We have worked with Cooper since 2001, and included his work alongside Richard Long and photographs from the Paul Nash archive in our exhibition LAND, but this was our first solo exhibition. To mark the occasion Cooper prepared and printed a remarkable group of 12 pictures which spanned the places and subjects that have been most present in his work for the past 30 years. These are, as the title of the exhibition suggests, rocks, water, and trees, as discovered in Northern Europe, including Scotland, and the USA. Taken together they provide a visual essay on one of the most celebrated and distinctive photographers working anywhere in the world today.
