GREEN ELECTRIC MORNING

28 April 2006 - 3 June 2006

This, David Austens 3rd solo exhibition at the Ingleby gallery, presented recent paintings and works on paper alongside a new suite of 25 etchings published under the title GREEN ELECTRIC MORNING.

Memory, unfulfilled longing and a kind of black surrealist humour all have their place, but in whatever manner and medium Austen’s work is constantly surprising and always exquisitely and logically constructed. Taken as a whole the works in a David Austen exhibition build together like pieces of an odd narrative: a series of wonderful fragments, each of which stands alone and yet seems part of something bigger. In a similar way his new sequence of 25 etchings have a filmic quality: taking their place together in a world part way between black and white cinema and half remembered dreams that mix text with drawn and appropriated images.
