FOUND – Art Basel Miami Beach 2017 – Booth I10

7 December 2017 - 10 December 2017

For Art Basel Miami Beach 2017 Ingleby has assembled a group of artists who use found objects in different ways to transform the everyday into the exceptional. For some like David Batchelor, Kevin Harman or Jonathan Owen it is about rescuing and re-inventing objects that have become redundant: be that a string of plastic bottles, a discarded industrial window unit, or a C19th marble carving. For others, such as Roger Ackling’s careful burning of fragments of found wood, Winston Roeth’s pigment covered roof slates or Peter Liversidge’s gilded faces found in card, the motivation is about the materiality of the thing. Materiality is also important to Iran do Espirito Santo, who transforms everyday objects with shifts of scale or substance, and to Andrew Cranston, whose every painting has a possible history implicit in its medium – the hard back covers of old books. Similarly, the Antiguan artist Frank Walter would work on whatever material he could find, his choice being purely practical in a world where the side of a cardboard box or the back of an old photo was the only medium to hand.
