Ruth Ewan’s print Precepts (Socialist Fellowship) is the latest print to be realised as part of the Billboard for Edinburgh print series.
Ewan’s billboard takes its inspiration from the Socialist Sunday School movement that emerged in Britain at the end of the 19th Century and flourished in the early part of the 20th century. Labelled as ‘hotbeds of sedition and blasphemy’ by some critics, they faced strong opposition because their political, secular doctrines.
These 10 commandments come from the socialist declaration card that was given to all of the Sunday School members.
