Peter Liversidge

There is no single category or definition that can successfully describe Liversidge's extraordinarily diverse body of work. It exists in almost every conceivable medium: drawing, performance, installation, photography, painting, sculpture, interventions, artist's books and multiples. While his work has an assured lightness of touch and a quiet poeticism, there is also an underlying streak of dark, absurdist humour. A central aspect of Liversidge’s practice is the making of Proposals, groups of hand-typed and posted suggestions that range from the sublime to the ridiculous, forming the basis for exhibitions, works and performances.

Recent projects and publications include: 'Proposals for Liverpool', The Fifth Floor, Tate Liverpool (2008); 'Proposals for Barcelona', Centre d'Art Santa Monica (2008); 'Proposals for Brussels', with the British Council for the Europalia Festival (2007); 'Festival Proposals', Ingleby Gallery, Edinburgh (2006), as well as a commission for COMMA at Bloomberg SPACE, London (June, 2009); several substantial commissions and a new proposal book for Jupiter Artland, near Edinburgh.

Two solo exhibitions are planned - at Ingleby Gallery in 2010, and the Corcoran Gallery, Washington in early 2011.
