Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone (b.1963) lives and works in New York. Rondinone works across a variety of media and his work, with its intriguing mix of optimism and melancholia, and explores our emotional and psychological responses to the banal and the ordinary in our everyday lives.

Rondinone has exhibited widely in Europe and the United States and in 2007 he represented Switzerland at in the 52nd Venice Biennale. Major solo exhibitions include Whitechapel Gallery, London (2006), Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris (2003) and Kuntsthalle, Vienna (2002). Previous public art installations include Hell, Yes!, a rainbow-coloured neon-lit sculpture commissioned for the opening of the New Museum, New York in 2001.

In 2011, Rondinone became the 12th artist to make a work for Ingleby Gallery’s public art project, Billboard for Edinburgh.
