Bob and Roberta Smith
Bob and Roberta Smith’s (born 1963) work employs techniques and materials more commonly associated with signwriters to question the role of art within today’s society. Highly-opinionated messages and slogans – often painted on found timber or board using glossy sign writer’s paint – playfully reference themes as diverse as the commercial art world, politics and popular culture. Central to the work is a humour and unique, instantly recognisable aesthetic.
